1st Day Training!

Ryan Here.  Since we've finally been able to get some of Dad's headache pain under control with some new meds, he's really been making progress and is slowly coming around and getting his personality back.  He's been able to get much better rest at home and has been sleeping pretty much all day, which we don't mind because it seems to really be helping.  That's the thing about the brain.  It's only at rest when your sleeping. Unlike an injury to another part of the body, like an arm or leg, it can heal while your awake and doing things. The brain on the other hand is hard at work telling the rest of your body what to do when your awake, so it can only heal when Dad is sleeping. So, we're grateful that Dad has been getting some good rest.

On the other hand, the Doctors want Dad out being active and doing his thing.  So after a good day of rest we went out for his first training session to get ready for Ironman St. George 2013.  He's already signed up and there are no refunds so we've got to do it! May 4, 2013 is race day so we've got time to train.  Today's training session consisted of a nice walk down the street  and back. Enter evidence...

.3 Miles in about 4 Minutes, not a bad pace less than 1 week after Brain Surgery!

Gettin in the groove, setting a nice pace!

He looked great and didn't have any trouble at all.  We could have probably gone at little bit longer but we didn't want to push it or cause an injury this early into training.:)

Training partners for the day!
And of course after finishing his training session he went to the mailbox and began sorting his mail  (P.S. Who's that beautiful pregnant lady in stripped shirt, whoever is married to her must be one lucky dude!)

A little post workout recovery snack in the backyard!

So May 4, 2013 is the day! Ironman St. George, 1.2 Mile Swim, 56 Mile Bike and 13.1 Mile run.  It's going to be epic. Dad, Me, Jeff and Greg (who while sitting in the hospital thought it would a great idea to sign up) will be racing for Dad and racing for Brain Cancer awareness!

Go Team IronDean!!!

I'm with Charity, I don't think I will be doing an Ironman anytime in my lifetime. But I make a great cheerleader!! "GO Brigham Young!" "Umm, he's dead." Some of you may get that. (PRIMA!) Or maybe none of you..... Crickets.

We're so happy to see Dean out training. What an amazing family the Bullocks are, which doesn't come as a surprise to us since we know Dean and think he's amazing! You're all in our thoughts and prayers.

Keep up the good work Dean! I know you all had your world turned upside down with the events of the past week, and I know
that you are facing some stiff competition. But, if anyone can beat this (there are the rare few who do!), you and your family,
with the Lord's help will be able to beat it! Thanks to all of you for your examples of faith and for keeping us informed.
